Book About The Muses

I came across a wonderful book for people who want to continue working with the theme of creativity of this year's FOI Goddess Festival main liturgy, The Winged Pegasus. It is called The Nine Muses by Angeles Arrien.

The book examines each Muse in depth.  Additional chapters explore the derivation of the word "Muse;" Mnemosyne, Mother of the Muses; and the purpose of myth as bridge between community and Mystery.

in the preface, Angeles asks 4 deep questions regarding our society and how our mental tools, collective consciousness, healthy expressions of the frminine principle, and creating a world that works for everyone, are related to our creative abilities.

Each chapter is devoted to a particular Muse. Chapters include images of that Muse, practical exercises such as writing an invocation intended to activate and make accessible her power and presence in our lives, and thoughtful reflections that include intensely pertinent literary expressions intended to awaken deep inner responses. Famous people who embody the power of specific Muses provide examples of that Muse's energy in action.

For example, the chapter about Mnemosyne explores the place of memory in our lives, along with ways to expand its power and purpose. The chapter on Calliope includes contact information for story-telling associations. The chapter on Clio touches on personal, family, and oral history. The chapter on Erato introduces collections of love poetry from other cultures. The excellent chapter on Melpomene not only explores sorrow and suffering, but offers thoughts on release and forgiveness as well.

I recommend this book as a useful way to get to know The Muses, to invite creativity into your life, and as a productive follow-up to the wonderful ritual by Lady Olivia Robertson, The Winged Pegasus.

Isis-House is the publishing house of FOI ArchPriestess DeTraci Regula.

Isis-House Publishing is dedicated to making available materials related to the Goddess Isis, and other Ancient Deities.

Datura: Esoteric Poetry Anthology

Chicago esoteric poet and FOI member Anna Applegate has been published in Scarlet Imprint Press's poetry anthology, Datura.

A celebration took place at Life Force Arts Center in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood: 3148 N. Lincoln Ave (just south of where Lincoln, Belmont, and Ashland Avenues intersect) from 7-9 p.m. and vegan appetizers, wine, and desserts were provided.


Anna recited her two poems that have been published: "Persephone's Rising" and "Bean Sidhe."

Scarlet Imprint Press is based in the U.K. and the April 24, 2010  book launch party was the only one held in the U.S. I wish I could go to Cornwall for the other party! Here is the publisher's link concerning this beautifully handcrafted book of esoteric poesy:

Mystery of Stonehenge : Video

Mystery of Stonehenge...from Anastasia Fennell:

A silver glow is growing behind the silhouetted horizon; it promises to be a fine day. It is an hour before sunrise, that special time when the Earth seems to hold her breath in anticipation of the appearance of her lover, the Sun. He has been united with her throughout the dark hours; now he prepares for his rebirth and subsequent climb into the heavens where he will take up his duties as Lord of the Day. But that is still an hour off. Venus, the morning star, illuminates the heavens to the east and bids us enter her domain. She is another aspect of the Goddess; we feel the power of Her love directed towards us as we approach Her temple. As we speed through the awakening countryside the birds are singing their praises to the dawn and there is movement to be seen in the hedgerows.

There is now a new wall hanging across the whole back wall behind the Well of Brigid at Clonegal Castle. The beautiful drawing - life size – is by an FOI Priestess and Artist. It is highlighted by Olivia Robertson who identifies it with Brigid Na Mara of the Sea and also with Goda, female equivalent of the Saxon “God”. Goda holds the trident like Britannia Atagartis, Syrian Sea Goddess.
